Seven men jailed for their part in a riot outside an asylum seekers hotel in Kirkby
18 March 24
Seven men are jailed for a total of 18 years, and another is given a suspended sentence, for violent disorder outside The Suites Hotel asylum accommodation in Kirby, Merseyside in February 2023, causing £80,000 worth of damage to the hotel. A total of 17 people have been convicted in relation to the disorder.

Police arrest 21 people in Thessaloniki after attack on trans youths

In Thessaloniki, Greece, thousands take to the streets to condemn an attack on two young trans people, surrounded by 100 people and forced to flee to a local restaurant, where bottles were thrown at them as they attempted to leave. Charges include abuse with bigoted intent.

Israeli director receives death threats after officials call Berlin film festival ‘antisemitic’

Germany: Attacks on refugees and refugee accommodation soar

Figures released by the German government show there were 2,378 politically motivated attacks against refugees, asylum seekers or their accommodation in 2023, almost double the number in the previous year. The figures include 219 people injured, 180 crimes against refugee accommodation and 313 violent crimes.

Huge rise in antisemitic abuse in UK since Hamas attack, says charity
15 February 24
The Community Security Trust records an increase of 589 percent in the number of antisemitic incidents (ranging from attacks and desecration to online abuse) in the UK, with 4,103 in 2023 compared with 392 in 2022. Between 1 January and 6 October, 19 percent of reported incidents involved ‘Israel-related antisemitism’, while between 7 October and 31 December, 56 percent did.

In Nicosia, Cyprus, an explosive device is thrown through the window of the anti-racist organisation KISA, damaging the property and archives. KISA accuses the government of leaving it vulnerable to criminal elements with racist and nationalist motives, failing to investigate dozens of death threats on social media and other acts of harassment.
