Belgium: Police arrest 4 teens over alleged jihadi plot
3 March 24
Four teenagers are arrested in different cities in Belgium after allegedly exchanging messages to plot a jihadi terror attack, though no weapons or explosives are found. Federal prosecutors say ‘it’s not that they were planning something tomorrow, but still imminent enough to intervene’.

Ofsted: Alternative provision in ‘desperate need of reform’
1 February 24
An Ofsted and Care Quality Commission report finds that alternative provision is being used ‘inappropriately’ and that AP placements rose above 67,000 in January 2023. The 13 per cent rise in one year is related to the number of students with special needs placed in AP as a ‘stopgap’, ‘unofficial’ exclusions, and high rates, since the pandemic, of permanent exclusions from some academies.

French prison opens anti-radicalization unit for women

‘Startling’ rise in child arrests in London over extreme Right-wing terrorism, Met chief warns

The Met’s counter-terror chief, Dominic Murphy, expresses concern about the number of young Londoners radicalised by extreme-right material and ideology. Of 25 children arrested in the 12 months to June 2023, 14 had extreme right-wing terrorism views compared with nine for Islamist views.
