An important meeting hosted by the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Gypsies, Travellers and Roma will be held on 28 October – Czech National Day.

The meeting will show a short film documenting the impact of nationalism on Romani communities in ther Czech Republic as the neo-Nazis march every week into the neighbourhoods where Roma live, and hear presentations from Roma who have left the Czech Republic and Slovakia for the UK to settle in places such as Margate, Newcastle, Halifax, Derby, Birmingham and Sheffield.

Europe-Roma International representatives will explain the escalating situation, particularly in the Czech Republic, where violence increases against Roma communities from one week to the next, and the reasons why Roma are moving to the UK, and what they would like to see done to end anti-Roma racism, discrimination and stigmatisation.

The meeting is on Monday 28 October 2013, House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA.

This is an open meeting but as space is limited, registration is essential. To register, email: Liz Fekete at the Institute of Race Relations: For further information about Europe-Roma International and press enquiries, contact Ladislav Balaz, email: or phone 0121 572 0907 or 07831 007 414.
