The IRR is really excited to report that it is looking to recruit a dynamic Deputy Director to drive the organisation forward in challenging times. We are asking anyone interested in helping the IRR develop its next phase as a radical educational body, which ‘thinks in order to do’, to think about applying. Details here.
These are indeed challenging times and the new Deputy Director joins us just when IRR is increasing its efforts to defend communities across Europe which have everything to fear from a resurgent electoral far Right. In this week’s calendar of racism and resistance, we chart the call by the electoral far Right in Finland (where the Finns party controls the interior ministry) to make Christianity a basis for refugee selection, the situation in the Netherlands (where far-right PVV Geert Wilders is forcing the pace on criminalisation and deportations of dual nationals) and in Germany where an Alternative for Germany MP calls for the deportation of low-skilled workers and unemployed Moroccans. Clearly, Donald Trump, with hismammoth planned deportation drive, is not the only far-right figure to fear on the international stage. Sivanandan’s warnings about the move From Immigration Control to ‘induced repatriation’ are as pertinent now as in 1978.
