IRR News 6-12 June 2014

Dear IRR News subscriber,

This week, we republish an article by Daniel Holder from the Belfast-based human rights NGO Committee on the Administration of Justice (CAJ) on incitement to racial hatred in Northern Ireland. We also run an article on the recent death of Anowar Tagabo, a Darfuri student in Sheffield.

Racially motivated violence has been dominating news across the UK this week. An 18-year-old man had his sentence reduced from eight to six years for a racist attack on a 79-year-old Asian man, whose skull was fractured; racist attacks in Northern Ireland are on the increase as are racist attacks on Polish people; and three men who attacked a shopkeeper in Widnes have been jailed for four and half years.
