Dear IRR News subscriber,

This week on the News Service, we review a new play on stop and search (it’s still on in Catford, south London) and Saleh Mamon, a regular contributor, reviews the recent report from the Children’s Commissioner inquiry into exclusions. We are also sad to report the death of Gerry German, a committed campaigner for the rights of children.

In news from across the UK, a man has been charged with perverting the course of justice in connection with the racist murder of Simon Tang in Carrickfergus. And in the week that the UK goes to the polls a NF candidate in Liverpool has been arrested and charged with public order offences, UKIP in Sheffield has dropped its candidate after he endorsed the testimony of Anders Breivik and elderly anti-fascists were attacked in Lewisham at the weekend.

The UK Border Agency has also halted its programme to x-ray the teeth of asylum-seeking children in order to prove their age and Theresa May, the home secretary, has been criticised for failing to comply with a court order to find a Turkish man who was deported ‘illegally’ and return him to the UK.
