Dear IRR News subscriber,

This week, Frances Webber reports on the implications of proposed cuts to legal aid to BME communities. We also have an interview with an anti-racist group in Germany which recently turned down an award for their work as a protest against government counter-extremism policies.

And in news from across the UK, we report on the upsurge in anti-Muslim attacks following the murder of Lee Rigby in Woolwich. The English Defence League has also been active again, with violent demonstrations in Woolwich, Downing Street and Newcastle and Stephen Yaxley-Lennon’s fundraising for the Help for Heroes charity has been rejected. And the BNP is reportedly telling its supporters to ignore a police ban on their march from Woolwich to Lewisham which is due to take place on 1 June.
