Dear IRR News subscriber,

This week, as we mourn the death of IRR’s Emeritus Director and Race & Class founding editor A. Sivanandan, the IRR would like to thank all those who have shown their appreciation of his work on social media, the IRR’s website and in personal communications to Siva’s wife, Jenny Bourne, the family and IRR staff. The depth of the public’s appreciation of Sivanandan’s seminal contribution to the anti-racist and anti-imperialist struggle in the UK and internationally has warmed our hearts and the IRR will continue to build on the foundations and principles he laid down. As Liz Fekete reminds us the memory and legacy of Sivanandan will not die. Though a public memorial will take place later this year, there will also be an opportunity to discuss the legacy of Siva (as he was known to his friends) at the launch of a new book on European racism at the Ahmed Iqbal Ullah Race Relations Resource Centre in Manchester on 7 February.
