Dear IRR News subscriber,

This week we report on an important meeting due to be held in central London on Monday 21 May, where John Carlos, will be speaking alongside Doreen Lawrence and Janet Alder.

Frances Webber comments on a recent legal decision which ‘gives a green light to racism‘ and Jenny Bourne reviews a new film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.

In news from across the UK, the Independent Monitoring Board at Heathrow has found that children are held in ‘degrading and disgraceful’ conditions and new research has found that migrant workers throughout the UK are living in poverty, subjected to racist abuse and routinely exploited.

And in an important legal ruling the high court has ruled that broadcasters do not have to hand over footage of the Dale Farm eviction to the police and an independent reviewer has recommended that the Advertising Standards Authority reconsider its decision not to investigate an advert for a Channel 4 programme, My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding.
