Dear IRR News subscriber,

Earlier this week, a landmark case at the High Court found that the government’s attempts to introduce a residence test for legal aid is discriminatory and unlawful. High Court judges have also indicated that a decision on whether the inquest verdict into the death of Mark Duggan will be quashed will not be taken until later in the year.

In London, a Metropolitan police sergeant has appeared in court charged with two counts of assault against a mentally ill Somali man. And police in Scotland have been accused of having a farcical complaints procedure after it was revealed that only nine complaints out of hundreds upheld allegations of racism.
