A 59-year-old Indian Sikh man is in a serious condition in hospital after sustaining a head injury.
The man suffered the serious injury following a ‘domestic incident’ on 26 June 2013 in Hockley, when two police officers arrived following an emergency call and were later joined by two other officers. The man ‘was restrained, he became unresponsive and was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he remains’.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) told IRR News that neither CS gas nor tasers were used during the incident and was unable to confirm whether the officers involved in the incident remained on duty.
According to the IPCC, it ‘will be independently investigating how this man sustained a serious head injury during this incident. We have deployed a number of investigators and are in contact with the man’s family.’
