On 20 February thousands of people across the UK took part in the ‘One Day Without Us’ national day of action. Over 120 events were held, many migrant-led. They celebrated the contribution of migrants in the workplace and countered the relentless scapegoating of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees in the media. Their focus also ranged from the legal limbo that millions of EU nationals find themselves in, to the inequities of immigration detention and the treatment of asylum seekers.

This is a theme that is taken up in the week’s IRR News, in an overview of the way the lives of hundreds of babies, toddlers and child refugees have been ‘blighted’ by life in privatised accommodation. South-Yorkshire based campaigner John Grayson brings together some of his investigations into asylum housing, showing how people have and continue to live in sub-standard conditions: crowded, cold, and in some cases rodent-infested and dangerous.
