This week, the IRR publishes Investigated or ignored? An analysis of race-related deaths since the Macpherson report, highlighting serious deficiencies in the criminal justice system’s response to racist murders, or as a result of attacks with a known or suspected racial element. We also publish an interview by IRR director Liz Fekete with Eike Sanders, Coordinator of NSU-watch, a network of around a dozen anti-fascist archives and monitoring projects which has been observing the largest far-right trial in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Reem Abu-Hayyeh reviews Salée est l’eau de l’amer, a volume of poetry which condemns the treatment of poor North African migrants in Belgium and the devastating effects of incarceration. And we also reproduce a statement by Unite Against Fascism, as well as information about a pan-European day of action coinciding with UN Anti-Racism Day.

In news from across the UK, the IPCC has widened its investigation into the police’s response to the harassment and brutal murder of Iranian refugee Bijan Ebrahimi, who was killed in Bristol in 2013. A 45-year-old man who attacked a Sikh shopkeeper in Burnley last year, trying to stab him and shouting racist abuse, has admitted attempted murder. And a Holocaust Memorial Day event at Suffolk New College, in which Tommy Robinson and other former EDL members were due to speak, has been cancelled after trustees of the event threatened to pull out of the meeting.
