In news from across the seas, the Iraqi government has banned the forced return of Iraqi asylum seekers from Europe and in a highly unusual move a Sikh man deported to Afghanistan has been brought back to the UK by the British government after spending 18 months in prison.

A police officer has told the inquest into the death of Sean Rigg, who died in police custody at Brixton station in 2008, that he cannot remember saying ‘I hope he hasn’t got anything, I’ve got his blood on me’ as he stood over an unconscious and handcuffed Sean Rigg (echoes of what happened to Christopher Alder in police custody in 1998?). And police in Nottingham have been accused of ‘blatant racism‘ over their use of stop and search powers.
