By the way, it’s ironic that on the day the Chakrabarti Inquiry report is launched, no heed is paid to the Report’s recommendation for natural justice to prevail when dealing with disciplinary action: veteran political activist Marc Wadsworth was suspended from the Labour party for his intervention at the launch.
According to Judy Smeeth MP he uttered a “anti-Semitic” slur which neither her or her supporters have shown to be fact. Wadsworth was alleged to have brought the party into disrepute – since no specifics were provided, one assumes for pointing out the paucity of Africans and Asians at the launch!
Regarding the subject matter of the Report, it is a complex issue, that merits engagement on different levels/fronts/perspectives.
Although not listed, Africans For JC Values and some 40 co-signatories made a submission urging the Inquiry to also highlight anti-African discrimination and use the word and preferred spelling: Afriphobia.
Thankfully, they took notice, as it’s used alongside anti-Semitism and Islamophobia in the Inquiry’s Report.
We’d urge IIR/R&C to also use this terminology and spelling when dealing specifically with anti-African racism. And African means all peoples of African heritage, be they from the African continent or its diaspora.

When politics became the preserve of the mostly white affluent middle class as did the media, class discrimination of all kinds, heavily linked to a rigged economic system that favours privileged and affluent white people at the expense of every other group, including the white working class, became the norm. Of course, the affluent don’t like to be reminded of their complicity in the widening economic inequality, so their ‘answer’ was identity politics, a mish mash of PC and other muddled half baked ideologies, that pay lip service to oppressed ethnic minorities, but were the ruling and middle class could stay right wing economically.
