Over the past two weeks, we have increased our press monitoring of far-right intimidation and racist violence. Last week, we published a ‘Dossier on a Pogrom in Northern Ireland’, which highlighted community concerns about the police response to the pogrom as well as the role that some Loyalist paramilitaries may have played in it.
This week, our regular calendar of racism and resistance focuses on acts of violence against mosques and Muslim communities in England and Scotland, as well as the rise of anti-Sikh hate crimes following Nigel Farage’s call for ‘pure cold rage’ in response to the killing of Henry Nowak. As the government is distracted by the prime minister’s resignation, and politicians jostle for position in any new administration, the call by Muslim community organisations for an emergency Cobra meeting in response to a series of anti-Muslim attacks in Edinburgh (currently being investigated as terrorist-linked), that left five people injured, some with stab wounds, appears to have fallen on deaf ears.
